Young people in Japan can now build their financial confidence for free, thanks to an exciting new initiative from MetLife Foundation and international technology company, EVERFI from Blackbaud. The partnership is centred on a new mobile-first education programme, ‘Achieve: Smart Budgeting’, which is available without restriction to all of Japan’s 4,000+ high schools.
Developed in collaboration with teachers and education experts in Japan, Achieve: Smart Budgeting is a free digital course which presents an age-appropriate scenario to engage students aged 15-18 with the vital topic of financial education. The course is also supported at every stage with comprehensive lesson plans for confident teacher delivery.
Working through five 10-minute online modules, students will develop money management skills by helping high school student Rin as she prepares for a trip to an upcoming music festival. The five modules have strong curriculum links, covering spending, saving, investing, credit and risk:
Module 1:The basics of budgeting and spending habits
Module 2: Understand the different types of payments
Module 3: Explore how different types of employment can help goals
Module 4: Understand the benefits of investing
